Nick Espie - Special Counsel


Nick is an Arrernte man who has around two decades of legal practice and policy experience working on Aboriginal justice issues. He joined the Human Rights Law Centre in 2024 to focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights. Nick is based in Darwin and has worked extensively throughout the Northern Territory and the Kimberley region of Western Australia. He has held management roles with the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency and the Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia.

He was the Director of Community Engagement for the Royal Commission into the Detention and Protection of Children in the Northern Territory and worked as a Legislative Reform Manager in the Northern Territory Government on child protection and youth justice reforms. Nick has also served as a board member of the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency.
