The Human Rights Law Centre is looking for two Senior Lawyers to join our team.

Senior Lawyer - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ Rights team and other focus areas

  • 1.0 EFT, 12-month fixed term (part-time arrangements will be considered)

  • Parental leave cover position

  • Melbourne or Sydney

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Lawyer to work 0.5 EFT in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ Rights team on economic and social rights issues and 0.5 EFT on other strategic focus areas identified in our strategic plan, to be determined by the organisation in consultation with the successful applicant. These areas could include democratic freedoms, the campaign for a Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms, asylum seeker and refugee rights or business and human rights.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply. We are seeking a collaborative lawyer with at least five years of experience, preferably working on economic and social rights issues in a legal or policy setting. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated commitment to working in deep partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations around Australia, consistent with our Partnership Principles.

Senior Lawyer – Democratic Rights and Freedoms team

  • 1.0 EFT, 12-month contract

  • Open to 0.8 or 0.9 EFT for the right candidate

  • Melbourne or Sydney

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Lawyer to work with us on democratic rights and freedoms. This position will report to the Legal Director leading this area of work and will play a vital role in contributing to all aspects of the work. The work is both responsive and agenda-setting, working closely with Australian civil society groups to identify and address systemic issues.

We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic and collaborative individual. This position is aimed at lawyers with at least five years’ post-admission legal experience or relevant policy or social justice experience.
