Submission to the Australian National Audit Office performance audit of family reunion and partner visas
After a parliamentary inquiry earlier this year recommended an urgent overhaul of the family migration system, the Australian National Audit Office is now conducting an audit of the Department of Home Affairs’ handling of family via applications. The audit will consider whether the family migration program is effectively planned, and whether visa applications, caseloads and decisions are effectively managed.
The Human Rights Law Centre made a submission to the inquiry highlighting major barriers to family reunion and the factors contributing to extreme processing delays, and made 13 recommendations for reform.
