Alycia Gawthorne - Communications Officer

Alycia joined the Human Rights Law Centre in September 2017 and has seven years of experience in media, communications, and campaigning.

Working at GetUp! for four years, Alycia campaigned on a range of issues from climate change, fair trade, universal healthcare, and refugees and asylum seeker rights. She was a core member of the team who spearheaded #LetThemStay, the nationwide movement that prevented the deportation of 267 people to offshore detention. She was also a Senior Campaigner in the ongoing effort to stop the Carmichael coal mine.

Prior to GetUp, she worked in the media and communications team at Fairfield City Council. Alycia has a Bachelor in Communication Studies from Western Sydney University, where she was granted a Myer Fellowship to cover the 2010 Philippine presidential election as a journalist with The Philippine Daily Inquirer.

As Communications Officer at the HRLC, Alycia works with the team to engage supporters and keep them informed of our work and impact. She specialises in social media and copywriting and draws on her data analytics experience to help maximise the reach and effectiveness of the HRLC communication outputs.

She is particularly fond of the Oxford comma.
