Adrianne Walters

Associate Legal Director

Adrianne Walters has been with the Human Rights Law Centre since 2016, focusing on economic, environmental and health justice issues and working in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia and Indigenous communities in Bougainville.

Adrianne grew up on Wurundjeri-willam land in the outer suburbs of Melbourne and spent a number of years working on Larrakia Country in the Northern Territory. She has worked as a senior lawyer and systemic change specialist since 2010 and worked at the Top End Women’s Legal Service, the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA) and Victorian Law Reform Commission prior to starting at HRLC.

Adrianne has been privileged to work with and learn from incredible and inspiring activists and community leaders, especially First Nations leaders pushing for transformational change. She has collaborated on campaigns for fairer social security laws, for economic justice in remote communities, for reproductive rights, for better equality laws and for environmental justice in Bougainville.

Adrianne continues to support the vital work of women’s legal services and is a board member with the Women’s Legal Service Victoria.

Adrianne holds a Bachelor of Laws/International Relations from La Trobe University and a Master of Laws (Human Rights) from Monash but is on the long journey of unlearning the systems and structures of white privilege that our legal systems are founded on.
